I built my first website in the mid-nineties and was first paid to do so in 1997. NAWD started life the following year as New Age Web Design, and it has stayed with me in the background ever since, through contract work and projects of my own, while most of my career was spent inside larger organisations.
That work covered a lot of ground: mapping and property-data applications, document management systems, trading risk dashboards for a global bank, a mobile investing app, and design systems for one of the world's largest e-commerce platforms. Most recently I led the replacement of a set of ageing back-office systems, which taught me that the real work is understanding what people need before anything gets built.
Away from software, I spent several years as a wedding photographer, always the only one on the day, and I have designed the concert posters for a local choir for more than twenty years.
NAWD is where all of that comes together, for businesses that want it done properly and explained plainly.
